Recent Updates Documentation Grants are now available! The Maine Historical Records Advisory Board is very please to announce a new grant category -- Historical Records Documentation. The Documentation Grant Program encourages a new way of looking at archival programs. Instead of merely processing or rehousing local archival collections, documentation encourages a broader look at how well the state as a whole is doing at preserving the archival record of a particular subject area. It is part of an effort to build a comprehensive, balanced, and equitable documentary record of Maine – a daunting task! The historical record in Maine is vast and varied, but there are still huge gaps waiting to be filled.... and they will remain that way unless we notice they are there and make a focussed attempt to fill them. For this deadline, the MHRAB is focussing on Agriculture, but you may present another topic as long as you justify the need and importance of a Documentation Planning Project for that topic. Applications must be postmarked by June 15, 2009.
Historical Records Collections Applications ** Minor capital equipment that furthers the preservation of the collection, such as archival-quality shelving, is now allowable in Historical Records Collections Applications. ** For the next year, Historical Records grants will focus on Agricultural Collections. Any subject area is eligible, but agricultural collections are especially encouraged. There will be a separate application for Documentation Grants.
The 2009 Maine New Century Community Program Facilities and Historical Collections Grants are now available! These programs have been changed to better serve the Maine historical society, museum, historic site and local archive communities. Applications and guidelines have all been streamlined to make them easier to understand and complete correctly. We hope you like the changes! The Facilities Grants programs will have two deadlines this year. The first deadline is May 1, 2009. These applications should be for projects that will be completed between August 1, 2009 and August 1, 2010. The second deadline is December 1, 2009. These applications should be for projects that will be completed between March 1, 2010 and March 1, 2011. The Museum Collections grant program will have one deadline this year. That deadline is May 1, 2009. These applications should be for projects that will be completed between August 1, 2009 and August 1, 2010. at deadline ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1) Historical Records Collections Grants Sponsored by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission JUNE 1 , 2009 WILL BE THE NEXT DEADLINE FOR HISTORICAL RECORDS GRANTS.
