About CRIC: The Cultural Resources Information Center
The Cultural Resource Information Center (CRIC) is an information service, designed to assist all of Maine's cultural and heritage organizations -- museums, libraries, archives, and historical recordkeepers. We also administer the Maine New Century Community Program Historical Facilities Grant program for the Maine State Museum. Initially established in 1992, we are a collaborative project of the Maine State Museum, the Maine State Archives., and the Maine Archives & Museums (MAM), the statewide museum membership organization.
CRIC can provide you with the information you need to start and manage a museum or historical organization, preserve and manage a collection, locate specific museum technical expertise, preserve or restore a historic property, plan exhibitions, serve on a museum board, identify grant funding, develop projects and budgets for grants and much more. Additional information topics include:
- collections care and conservation
- accessibility issues
- guidance on how to work with other organizations in your town to preserve historic records
- trusteeship
- upcoming workshops offered throughout the state and region
- professional consultants
- work going on in other organizations that might complement your ideas and current projects
- regional and national organizations
For more information regarding our services, please explore this website. You can also contact the CRIC manager by email at Maine CRIC or by telephone at (207) 287-7591. The office is currently staffed one day a week. Your call or email will be answered as expeditiously as possible.
