Note: The engagements that are marked with an asterisk represent the official "Battle Honors" awarded to the 1st Maine Cavalry by the War Department under General Order No.10, 1865. The official list of Battle Honors indeed adds up to just about the longest list accorded to any unit, a fact partly explained by the regiment having been broken into separate, independent battalions and squadrons from time-to-time. Not content with the official list, the regimental historian created the list that appears here, in which he apparenty included every skirmish and every location where any shot was fired at them in anger. Far be it from us to short-change them, so we used his roster.
