WHAT DO I DO IF I CANNOT VISIT THE MAINE STATE ARCHIVES?

With limited resources, the Archives cannot conduct genealogical research, though it can provide copies of specific records.  For researchers unable to visit, we provide a list of professional genealogists , not connected with the Archives. Search our on-line databases through Maine Archives Interactive.

Microfilm copies of vital records (birth, death, and marriage) are held by the Archives from before 1892 (incomplete) and from 1892-1955.  They are also available on microfilm at the following institutions:

Years: Pre-1892, and 1892-1955 are now available at (North to South):

  • The Library , University of Maine at Presque Isle

  • Fogler Library , University of Maine, Orono

  • Penobscot Marine Museum , Searsport

  • Maine State Library , Augusta
       (more extended hours than the Archives)  

  • Maine Historical Society , Portland  

  • Portland Public Library , Portland

  • Springvale Public Library , Springvale Village, Sanford
