The differences between a Licensed Special Fuel Supplier and a Registered Special Fuel Supplier are as follows:
A Licensed Special Fuel Supplier may import and export on road fuel, as well as sell on road fuel to other Licensed Special Fuel Suppliers, the U S Government, State and Political Subdivisions without collecting Maine State Excise Tax. A Licensed Special Fuel Supplier must collect Maine State Excise Tax when on road fuel is delivered into a retail tank that is equipped to fuel a motor vehicle or sold to any entity that is not listed as exempt above. Licensed Special Fuel Suppliers must file a monthly Special Fuel Supplier Tax Return.
A Registered Special Fuel Supplier buys and sells on road fuel Maine State Excise Tax Paid and does not file a monthly Special Fuel Supplier Tax Return.
