Agricultural Water Source Development Cost Share Grant

Press Release: Commissioner of Agriculture Extends Deadline for Agricultural Water Source Development Grants.

The Maine Department of Agriculture is extending the deadline for applications under the Agricultural Water Source Development Cost Share Grant Program from 2:00 p.m. local time on Friday, June 13th, 2008 to 2:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008. All other requirements for applicants remain the same. The extension is being given to provide more time for commercial farmers to complete water management plans and contact regulatory agencies in cases where regulatory signoffs are required.

The Water Source Development program was first established in 2001 to help farmers build new ponds after the disastrous droughts of the late 1990’s. In addition, farmers build ponds or wells to remove pumps from streams in order to minimize or eliminate damage to fisheries in the summer, especially in the Atlantic Salmon protected watersheds. Currently about $1.5 million dollars is available for projects.

Copies of applications and RFP eligibility and guidelines can be obtained from: Maine Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources, 28 State House Station, Augusta, Maine, 04333 or email John.Harker@maine.gov  or call 207-287-7620. The application can also be found on the web for download at http://www.maine.gov/agriculture/mpd/business/grantsandloans/.
