Housing for Katrina EvacueesOctober 5, 2005 Dear Concerned Citizen, The devastation to the Gulf Coast caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita will be felt by many people for years to come. Your willingness to offer housing and support to displaced Americans speaks volumes about the generosity and spirit of Maine residents. The Katrina relief website has received more than 800 entries from concerned citizens who have opened their hearts and offered to open their homes to evacuees. We will be sharing that information with the American Red Cross and Catholic Charities of Maine--agencies that are providing substantial resources to victims, including temporary and long term housing. If it is determined that your offer to provide housing and/or support is needed, you will be contacted by a staff member from Catholic Charities of Maine. The number of evacuees in Maine who will need housing is very small--so the likelihood of being called is very small. On behalf of Governor Baldacci’s Hurricane Katrina relief task force, thank you for demonstrating such concern and generosity.
Sincerely,
