Please note that any evacuees who have arrived in Maine are encouraged to register with both the Red Cross and FEMA even if your immediate needs are already being met. This will help ensure that you receive all the services and assistance you are entitled to.

Housing:

  • The state of Maine has received information from hundreds of families, agencies and organizations willing to house evacuees while they get settled here in Maine. Catholic Charities of Maine has generously offered to help match evacuees with the housing options that are most appropriate for them. If you are in need of housing in Maine as a result of hurricanes Katrina or Rita, please contact Catholic Charities at (207)-523-2748 or (207)-523-2757. These phone numbers are direct lines to two case managers who are working exclusively to help evacuees find housing.

Local Transportation

  • There are many ways to get around Maine. To find out information about flying, bicycling, driving, or taking a train, bus or boat, go to http://www.exploremaine.org/

Need New ID?

  • Many individuals lost various forms of identification when they evacuated from hurricane affected areas. To obtain a new ID (like a driver's license or similar ID) you can contact the Maine Secretary of State and an individual will work personally with you to help you obtain new identification.
