Veterinary Technician

Veterinary technician means a person who has completed a minimum of 2 years in a college program that is certified according to the standards adopted by the American Veterinary Medical Association's Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities or an equivalent program, as determined by the board, and who has passed an examination prescribed by the board.

VETERINARY TECHNICIANS:

The Veterinary Technician National Examination is offered on the third Friday of January and June yearly. The exams are held at 9:00 AM at the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation, 122-124 Northern Avenue, Gardiner, Maine. The deadline for applications is 45 days prior to examination.

Renewal fees and information

Fees
  • Annual renewal fee is $30.00.
Terms
  • This license renews annually on September 30.
Requirements
  • A late fee of $50.00 is assessed for licenses renewed after the license expiration date.
  • Licenses may be renewed up to 90 days after the date of expiration upon payment of a late fee of $50 in addition to the renewal fee.
  • Any person who submits an application for renewal more than 90 days after license expiration date is subject to all requirements governing new applicants and is required to reapply with original license application, documentation and fees.
  • Renewal applications are mailed approximately 30 days prior to the license expiration date. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep the Board informed of the current license address and/or to see that the license is renewed absent the renewal application.
