I want to sell Real Estate. How do I get started?

You must pass the sales agent class; click here to see a class list. After the class you must pass the Sales Agent Exam.

How do I sign up for the exam?

Send your original course completion certificate with a sales agent exam request form. We will return your certificate to you with a pink Sales Agent Exam Authorization card.

Where do I take the exam?

The exam is given in Westbrook and Bangor. Pearson Vue administers the exam.

What about deadlines?

  • You must pass the exam within one year of finishing your class.
  • You must apply for a license within one year of passing the exam.

How do I apply for a license?

Fill out and mail a license application. Be sure to include

  • $101, payable to Maine State Treasurer;
  • Original examination results; and
  • Original course completion certificate.

How many CE credits do I need to renew my license?

None. Sales Agent licenses are not renewable.

My license expires soon and I haven't taken the Associate Broker class. Can I have an extension?

To apply for an extension, mail a letter to the Maine Real Estate Commission. Include proof that you've signed up for an associate broker class and an $80 extension request fee (payable to "Maine State Treasurer"). You will get a letter stating that your extension request was approved or denied.
