Frequently Asked Questions - Boiler Inspector Licensees

How do I qualify to be licensed as a boiler inspector?

You must hold a certificate as an inspector of steam boilers from the National Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessel Inspectors and pass the State of Maine exam. You must also be employed by an insurance company licensed to insure boilers and pressure vessels in this State.

Do I need to pass a test?

Yes. A State of Maine exam based on Maine boiler laws and rules.

How do I apply for a license?

After you apply for a license, Program staff will contact you to schedule an exam.

How often is the test given?

As needed.

Is my application confidential?
