Trainee Aesthetician , Trainee Barber, Trainee Cosmetologist,
Trainee Manicurist
Trainee means any person who is registered with the board and, under the direct supervision of a person licensed under this chapter in the same category as the training performed and in accordance with board rules, is engaged in learning and acquiring a knowledge of the practice of:
A. Cosmetology;
B. Barbering;
C. Aesthetics; or
D. Manicuring.

- Application Fee $10.00
- License Fee $20.00
- Criminal History Check fee $15.00 until June 30, 2008.
- Effective July 1, 2008, the Maine State Bureau of Identification is adopting a rate changes. The fee for criminal background checks will increase to $21.00. Applications received on or after July 1, 2008 are subject to the $21.00 fee for the criminal history records check.

- Manicuring 6 months from date of issuance.

| Requirements |
Complete and submit the Application for Trainee Registration with the following information:
- Appropriate fee made payable to Treasurer, State of Maine or pay by credit card by completing the authorization form;
- Proof that you are at least 16 years of age; and
- Proof that you have completed 10th grade or its equivalent.

Renewal fees and information
| Fees |
- The renewal fee is $10.00.

| Terms |
- Trainee Aesthetician can be renewed and expires 12 months from the date of issuance.
- Trainee Barber and Cosmetologist can be renewed and expires 18 months from the date of issuance.
- Trainee Manicurist can be renewed and expires 6 months from the date of issuance.

| Requirements |
- A person who submits an application for renewal after the expiration date is subject to a late fee of $50.00;
- More than 90 days after license expiration date is subject to submitting a new application and the late fee of $50.00 plus penalty fees:
- Lapsed license 90 days to 4 year: $30.00.
- Repeat lapsed license renewals: additional $100.00.
- Lapsed license 4 years and beyond: Must pay required fee and retake the exam.
Renewal reminders are mailed approximately 60 days prior to the license expiration date. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep the Board informed of the current license address and/or to see that the license is renewed absent the renewal application.

The Department must verify that you have met all the conditions for renewal before your license is renewed. Online submission of your renewal application should not be construed as automatic renewal of your license.
