Student Aesthetician , Student Barber, Student Cosmetologist, Student Manicurist

Student means any person duly enrolled in a school licensed by the board and engaged in learning and acquiring a knowledge of the practice of:

A. Cosmetology;

B. Barbering;

C. Aesthetics; or

D. Manicuring.

How to apply

Fees
  • License fee $10.00
  • Criminal History Check fee $15.00 until June 30, 2008.
  • Effective July 1, 2008, the Maine State Bureau of Identification is adopting a rate changes. The fee for criminal background checks will increase to $21.00. Applications received on or after July 1, 2008 are subject to the $21.00 fee for the criminal history records check.

  • Annual renewal based on date of issuance
Requirements

Complete and submit the Application for Student Registration with the following information:

  • Appropriate fee made payable to Treasurer, State of Maine or if paying by credit card submit the authorization form with your application;
  • Proof that you are at least 16 years of age; and
  • Proof that you have completed 10th grade or its equivalent.

THIS Application MUST BE SUBMITTED TO US BY THE LICENSED SCHOOL. THE Application MUST HAVE AN OFFICIAL FROM THE SCHOOL SIGN THE REGISTRATION FORM.

Requirements
  • A student permit expires 12 months from date of issuance. Expired registrations must be renewed if a student has not completed his/her course. This registration permit must be renewed upon filing the appropriate application and fee. The renewal must be signed by the school.
  • A person who submits an application for renewal after the expiration date is subject to a late fee of $50.00;
  • More than 90 days after license expiration date is subject to submitting a new application and the late fee of $50.00 plus penalty fees:
    • Lapsed license 90 days to 4 year: $30.00.
    • Repeat lapsed license renewals: additional $100.00.
    • Lapsed license 4 years and beyond: Must pay required fee and retake the exam.

Renewal reminders are mailed approximately 60 days prior to the license expiration date. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep the Board informed of the current license address and/or to see that the license is renewed absent the renewal application.

    The Department must verify that you have met all the conditions for renewal before your license is renewed. Online submission of your renewal application should not be construed as automatic renewal of your license.
