Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor
Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor means an individual licensed by the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation who is providing the service of professional alcohol and drug counseling to the public for a fee, monetary or otherwise, and who meets the criteria established in sections 6213 and 6214-A for a licensed alcohol and drug counselor.

- Criminal history check fee: $15.00 until June 30, 2008.
- Effective July 1, 2008, the Maine State Bureau of Identification is adopting a rate changes. The fee for criminal background checks will increase to $21.00. Applications received on or after July 1, 2008 are subject to the $21.00 fee for the criminal history records check.

Renewal fees and information

| Requirements |
- Late fee of $50 assessed if renewed after November 30th
- If application submitted more than 90 days after the November 30 expiration date, you will be subject to all requirements governing new applicants. You will be required to reapply with original license application, documentation and fees.
- Renewal applications are mailed approximately 30 days prior to the license expiration date.
It is the licensee’s responsibility to keep the Board informed of the current license address and/or to see that the license is renewed absent the renewal application.
- Continuing education: 36 contact hours of continuing education is required prior to the November 30 renewal (biennially), i.e. 2005, 2007, 2009, etc.
