Important update regarding Maine resident producer prelicensing requirements

September, 2007

The requirement that resident producer applicants have at least 16 credit hours of prelicensing education or equivalent experience before being able to sit for the licensing exam has been repealed as of September 20, 2007.

Applicants of course may choose to take any of the various courses that are available to assist in their preparation for the mandatory licensing exam, but there will no longer be a specific requirement in that regard which must be established in order to be able to take the producer exam.

All other qualification requirements, including the experience requirement for consultant candidates, remain in effect.

If you have questions, you may contact the Bureau’s licensing staff at (207) 624-8412, or (207) 624-8413.
