Upgrade ImageIn 2003, CGI-AMS (formerly AMS), the vendor for MFASIS' Accounting System, Advantage 2.0 , announced that they will discontinue support and licensing for the software platform that supports the accounting system beginning July of 2005 as CGI-AMS have upgraded their mainframe software platform to a Web-based and server platform. For this reason, in 2003 the Office of the State Controller began to look at options for responding to this deadline in order to ensure secure and uninterrupted service to all state agencies that depend upon the MFASIS' Accounting System. After examining many alternative systems, the OSC determined that the State should stay on the upgrade path with the new Advantage System platform and work with CGI-AMS to their newest version of Advantage, Release 3.6 to deliver as many new features as possible for a limited amount of funding. The project will provide an integrated system that encompasses cash management, purchasing, and accounting, along with an integrated data warehouse tool. The Treasurer, Director of Purchasing, and Controller are all working in unison to deliver a comprehensive solution to state government.

The primary goal of the upgrade is to provide a system with a proven track record with current technology that will meet the requirements of Maine State Government for many years into the future. The core project team consists of CGI-AMS personnel, employees of the Controller's Office, Treasurer's Office, Division of Purchases, and OIT. The goal of the team is to provide a smooth transition from the current systems that are in-place to the new integrated system while minimizing the number of modifications to the Advantage System while preserving as many current business processes as possible. Where the situation arises, we are committed to examining the business process rather than modifying the system thereby maintaining its integrity.
