License Renewal - Online Renewal Service

Welcome to the Board of Licensure in Medicine Online License Renewal Service

This online service allows you to renew your Maine State Physician or Physician Assistant license up to 60 days before your license expiration date or you may select to withdraw your license at any time. You may also change your addresses, phone numbers and email address at this site. Payments for renewal fees can be made with a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card and are processed through Maine.gov's secure payment server.

Physician and Physician Assistant active OR inactive licenses that are renewed after the license has expired will incur additional late fees. If you feel that you should not be assessed a late fee due to special circumstances, please contact the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine directly to complete your renewal.

Please note: The service is unavailable nightly between 11:00 p.m. - 4:00 a.m. for maintenance.

Who can use this service?

The following must be true to use this service:

  • You are renewing one of the following licenses:
    • ACTIVE Maine Medical License
    • INACTIVE Maine Medical License
    • ACTIVE Maine Physician Assistant License
    • INACTIVE Maine Physician Assistant License
  • Your license has not lapsed
  • Your license is not under suspension or withdrawn

What you will need:

  • Your personal information (Name, Date of birth, SSN, License #)
  • Valid credit or debit card (Visa or MasterCard) if the physician or physician assistant is under 70 years of age

After submitting the application:

  • For Physicians:
    • If the renewal is successfully completed and paid for, including no "yes" answers on the "Licensing Questionnaire" and all required CME's are reported, your renewal will be reflected in our database within one business day.
    • Following the database update, you will be mailed, to the address provided, a wall license and wallet card reflecting your new license expiration date.
  • For Physician Assistants:
    • Our database will not be updated to reflect your renewal status until we receive the completed relationship verification forms from your primary supervising physician. Once all information has been received, your license information will be updated in our database within one business day.
    • Following the database update, you will be mailed, to the address provided, a wall license reflecting your new license expiration date.
