Virus NewsOctober 10, 2008: Recently, several people in the State of Maine mail system have received some suspicious messages that they have reported to us. The subject lines so far have been: “ funds wired into your account are stolen ” and “ Security Update for OS Microsoft Windows .” These messages have an attachment which you are requested to open. However, in both cases this is an executable program which would run and infect your computer with a Trojan Horse program. Our mail filters however remove the EXE attachment, and replace it with a txt attachment informing the mail recipient that the original exe has been removed. This may not be the case for home users however. Click here for more information. May 19, 2005: A virus has been detected on the network. The newest DAT files 4495 detect this as SDBOT.worm.gen. Machines under ePO will update automatically within 2 hours. If your machine is infected with this virus it will be detected after reboot of the PC and update of the DAT files. May 17, 2005: For those receiving German spam: Another variant of the Sober virus, which spreads right-wing messages in German and English, appeared over the weekend. Security firms are warning that they have received hundreds of thousands of e-mails generated by Sober.Q in its first 24 hours. Sober is usually a mass-mailing worm that sends a copy of itself to e-mail addresses stored on an infected computer's hard drive. However, in the same week that Germany and Europe celebrate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, the latest variant's sole purpose seems to be to distribute hate mail.
