BIOLOGIST II - (Fisheries)

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking to fill a Regional Fisheries Biologist vacancy in the GStrong area.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This supervisory position engages in professional scientific work to conserve, enhance, and restore freshwater fishery resources in Maine?s Rangeley Lakes region, working as the Regional Fisheries Biologist from the Strong Regional Headquarters. The successful candidate will administer, supervise, and coordinate various regional fishery management program responsibilities including development and evaluation of fish stocking programs and fishing regulations, review and assessment of proposed natural resource alterations, identification and development of water access projects, development and implementation of comprehensive fishery inventory, survey, monitoring, and other biological data collection programs. This position provides technical support to the Department, other state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the public; represents the Department at public meetings; and routinely analyzes fishery data and prepares technical reports.

Preference will be given to those that have strong interpersonal and organizatinal skills as well as hands on experience directly related to freshwater fisheries management such as: * Experience sampling fish populations through a variety of field methods * Experience with habitat restroration/improfement/protection * Experience working with members of the public on freshwater fisheries issues * Experience entering and analyzing fisheries data in SAS/Access/Excel/ArcMap * Experience writing technical reports and popular articles relating to fisheries

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in Biology, Fisheries Management, or related field -AND- three (3) years experience in laboratory or field research of fish and wildlife including experience in a supervisory capacity. Directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

  5. Describe your experiences interacting with the public on controversial fisheries issues and how you included the public?s input.
  6. Describe your supervisory and leadership experience and style.
