Need to access your State e-mail while away from the office? All you need is access to
an Internet connected computer with a Java capable browser and an authorized SecurID card.
This service enables SecurID users to access appropriately configured Exchange and cc:Mail
servers from the Internet without dialing into a state number (i.e. Shiva). To view
instructions for accessing this service, go to http://only.state.me.us/firewall/cars1.html.
Agencies interested in getting their server set up for this service may contact me by
calling 624-8800 or e-mailing chad.perkins@state.me.us for details.
For those of you with greater remote networking needs, the Bureau of Information
Services (BIS) now has a Virtual Private Network (VPN) client product available for
Windows9x and WindowsNT (Windows 2000 client is in beta as of this writing). The VPN
solution, which also utilizes SecurID, provides an authenticated/encrypted connection to
WAN connected servers through the Internet (or other foreign networks). Users can not only
access mail with native clients (i.e. Outlook), but can also access a wide variety of
other intranet/web/WAN based applications appropriate for slower connections of the
Internet and dialup networking. Go to http://only.state.me.us/firewall
to download the SecuRemote client software and instructions for loading it (note BIS
Desktop Support does not support these clients; you may wish to consult with your IT/IS
staff regarding support, etc. before installing any software).
