Did You Know?

Federal and state law requires that facilities that maintain hazardous materials inventories above certain levels must report those inventories to local, regional and state authorities. These laws are based on the principle that officials and citizens have a right to know what chemicals are being used in their communities. Public safety agencies need to know what is stored in areas they might be responding to; and to make sure responders are adequately trained. Citizens can become better informed about potential hazards near their homes and schools. Maine's "Right-to-Know" database has been made available on the Internet, searchable in several different ways. Check it out at: http://www.maine.gov/mema/serc/rtkintro.htm
