MEGIS Receives Hydrology Grant

The US Geological Survey recently notified the Maine Office of GIS (MEGIS) that MEGIS has been awarded $85,000 to continue work to enhance statewide digital GIS hydrology layers to National Hydrography Database standards for 1:24,000-scale data. A pilot project was undertaken last year to test and refine the methodology based on Maine's geography. This work supports the goals of a GIS Executive Council subcommittee charged with recommending improvements to the hydrography layers ( http://apollo.ogis.state.me.us/news/subnews.asp#hydro ).

Additional awards totaling $160,000 are expected over the next two years to complete the work. GIS Executive Council member agencies have provided the required 50% match through annual service level agreements.
