Friends & Trustees of Libraries

Library Friends organizations and public library trustee boards may wish to consult the following Maine and regional resources:

Friends of Maine Libraries(FOML): This organization provides grants, online newsletter, annual conference and support for local Friends groups.
Library Statistics: Information from annual reports submitted to the Maine State Library, such as salaries, budgets, circulation and other information about Maine’s public libraries. See ”Financial Statistics” and “Service Statistics” by population category for the appropriate statistical information.
Library Policies: Sample policies from Maine libraries and libraries in other states. Policies on library cards, internet use, collection development, circulation, reserving materials, library materials selection, and many other policies.
Maine Public Library Standards: Maine Library Association Public Library Standards 2000 with new 2006 to be available Fall 2006.
Grants and Funding: Local and national grant opportunities, deadlines, and contact information
District Consultants: Information about the three Maine Regional Library System Districts( Central Maine Library District -CMLD, Northeastern Maine Library District - NMLD, and Southern Maine Library District - SMLD, Area Reference and Resource Centers (ARRCs) and the services the three district consultants provide.
Directories: Addresses, websites, hours, contact information, and more for Maine libraries, Friends presidents and Trustee chairs.

Legislation: Legislation related to libraries, how to help, how to contact legislators, how to follow the text and status of legislative documents, the law and libraries, and confidentiality of library records
Maine Library Trustee Association (MLTA): The association promotes and fosters the development of libraries and library service and provides for the exchange of ideas among library board members.
