Paid Staff Full Time Equivalents (FTE) Statistics Data Definitions FY06

From the WebPLUS User's Guide, Version 1.0 (NCES, December 2006)

  • FTE - 40 hours per week has been set as the measure of full-time employment. For example, 60 hours per week of part-time work by employees in a staff category divided by the 40-hour measure equals 1.50 FTEs.
  • Library - This is the legal name of the administrative entity.
  • Librarians with ALA-MLS - Libarians with master's degrees in programs of library and information studies accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Total Librarians - Persons with the title of librarians who do paid work that usually requires professional training and skill in the theoretical or scientific aspects of library work, or both, as distinct from its mechanical or clerical aspect. (includes above)
  • All Other Paid Staff - This includes all other FTE employees paid from the reporting unit budget, including plant operations, security, and maintenance staff.
  • Total Paid Employees - This is the sum of Total Librarians and All Other Paid Staff
