Despite the spring snowstorm, over 300 librarians and authors attended the 18th Annual Reading Round-Up Conference of Children’s and Young Adult Literature at the Augusta Civic Center April 12. “Dewey or Don’t We – Essential Nonfiction” was the theme of the 2007 conference.
Keynote speaker was Susan Campbell Bartoletti who has written many award-winning nonfiction books including the 2006 Newbery Honor for Hitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler’s Shadow.
Although many of Bartoletti’s books are serious in nature covering topics such as child labor and the coal industry, her talk at the conference was full of humorous anecdotes.
Bartoletti resides in Moscow, Pennsylvania. |

Maine author Bruce McMillan received a Katahdin Award from the Maine Library Association’s Youth Service Section. This lifetime achievement award is given to recognize an outstanding body of work in the field of Maine children's and young adult literature. McMillan is a nationally recognized photographer and author of books for younger readers.
The recipient of the award is given a specially designed and engraved set of book ends as shown above.
