The Maine Regional Library System was created to improve library service for the citizens of Maine. Membership consists of public, school, academic, and special libraries. The Maine Regional Library System is administered by the Maine State Library in Augusta. Public Law 626, enacted in 1973, established three library service districts based on population.

MembershipEligibilityAny public, school, academic or special library is eligible to join if it meets the criteria. Each member library appoints a representative to the district council. There is no charge for membership. To join, contact the district office for an application. Benefits
