Reminder Calendar of Maine Library Garden

The Library Public Relations Committees in Maine are working on the production of a reminder calendar of Maine library gardens. Unlike the usual calendar, a reminder calendar lists dates for each month in linear fashion and is used to record birthdays, anniversaries, and other annual events. It can be used year after year and does not become outdated.

Purpose

The purpose of the calendar is to promote Maine’s libraries; promote information about libraries; increase good feelings about Maine libraries; and encourage more non-users to use libraries.

Library photos

Each page will contain several library garden photos. Photos may or may not reflect the season represented. Libraries from all parts of the state will be included. For privacy reasons, please do not include identifiable people in your photos. It is okay to have people in the background or with their backs to the camera.

Text

The calendar may contain

  • Quotations about libraries, books, reading, and gardening
  • Special national and local library events (Maine Libraries Week, National Library Week, September sign card sign-up, etc.)
  • Facts about historical library events and people (for example: 1 st Maine public library, Maine author birthdays, etc)
  • Facts about Maine public libraries/services [biggest, oldest, total number of public libraries, etc.]
  • Sources of library information [MaineLibraries.com web site, etc.]

How can your library’s garden be considered for the calendar?

  1. Email up to five digital photos to andersonm@mercyme.com by September 30, 2004.
  2. Photos can be either horizontal or vertical.
  3. Photo resolution should be 500 pixels.
  4. Each photo should include brief caption. Example: Faery Garden, Kennebunk Free Library, photographer Adam Smith, 2003 [date of photo].

Anticipated schedule

December 1: Finished copy to printer
