Library Literary Critic

Purpose

The Library Literary Critic provides short reviews for library books, movies, CDs, and other materials. The ideal volunteer will be an avid leisure reader, enjoy writing, and have an interest in a particular genre (romance, mysteries, children's books, nonfiction, etc.). Reviews will be emailed to the library director, and placed in the library catalog, featured on library shelves and on the library's web site at the discretion of the library director.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviews must be a minimum of 500 words
  • Submitting written reviews as a part of this volunteer position implies consent for the library to use the reviews in any way they see fit, including but not limited to, publication on the library shelves, catalog, website, Facebook pages, blog, and Twitter feeds

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required

  • Good communication skills
  • Average to superior writing skills, including spelling and grammar
  • Ability to make a book, movie, or CD sound exciting or interesting is a plus
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons, and other volunteers
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Open Office for word processing
