Urban/Rural Designations in Maine
The Table below lists the communities in Maine
designated by the OMB's Metropolitan Statistical
Area (MSA) as being urban. (The FCC has designated
the OMB's MSA as the official designation for
urban/rural communities for the purposes of
Universal Service discounts.) If your community
is on the list it means that your discount
will be less than those communities in Maine
not on this list which are considered to be
rural.
The FCC is aware that the MSA's are not a
perfect indicator of urban/rural status and
have created an appeals process. If you feel
that your community has been inappropriately
designated as urban, you may use this appeal
process to request a change in your community's
designation. Contact

for an appeal.
