How to Use and Access LearningExpress Library

Visit LearningExpress for your online learning

Funded by the Maine State Library’s BTOP grant and available to Maine public library patrons, LearningExpress Library is an interactive online learning platform featuring over 770 practice tests, tutorials, and eBooks related to job search and workplace skills improvement, career certification and licensing exam preparation, college entrance and graduate school admissions exam preparation, GED exam preparation, and basic skills improvement in reading, writing, and math, for all ages.

You will get immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of your results.  In addition, you will find interactive popular software tutorials/courses that are video-based and allow you to learn at your own pace.

Instructions for Access and Use

Access LearningExpress directly if you are i a public library
Click "Inside a Library" to access LearningExpress IF you are in a public library

Acces LearningExpress when you are not in a public library
Click "Outside a Library" to access LearningExpress via your MARVEL login (username & password) either from home or from an Internet wifi area.

Not in a library? Never used MARVEL? Bangor or Maine State Library patron?

You need to create a MARVEL username and password, using the quick steps below..

[If you are a patron of Bangor Public or Maine State Library, you cannot use your barcode like you do for MARVEL. Your library card allows use of the academic URSUS system which is not included in access to LearningExpress]

Quick Steps to Start

  1. Register for a MARVEL username and password.
  2. Spell out Maine in “State” field.
  3. You must choose "Public Library" as your affiliation for access.
  4. Click Register.
  5. Once you see the “Thank you", you are now registered for Marvel” message on your screen, you can go to the Commons page to access LearningExpress.
  6. Click on the Home Access if Registered MARVEL User link in the LearningExpress box.
  7. This will bring you back to the MARVEL page where you can login under "MARVEL! Username Login" (Right Side) to go directly to LearningExpress.
  8. Note: You also will receive a confirmation e-mail. that you are registered for MARVEL.

Minerva Library Card Holder

  1. Go to the Commons page at http://www.maine.gov/msl/commons/.
  2. Click on the Home Access if Registered MARVEL User link in the LearningExpress box.
  3. You will be prompted for your login for MARVEL. Type your Last Name and own Library barcode on the left side under “MARVEL! Login with library Barcode”.
  4. Once you login, you will go right to LearningExpress where you will need to create your own account.

Helpful Information

  • LearningExpress courses require Adobe Flash Player 8.0 or higher. Download Adobe Flash Player. This version is for Windows operating systems. Uncheck the box for the free Google toolbar if you do not want it; that is optional.  Be sure to click the link “Do you have a different operating system or browser? “ IF your machine is not Windows).
  • If you registered at another time for MARVEL with your current email, you will not be able to reregister but alerted that your email is "in use" by an existing user - that is probably YOU! Visit "Retrieve Your Password" to access your username and password.
  • Change my affiliation, email, username or password: You may change your personal information under "Edit My Account" on the login prompt page.
