Maine Library Commission Minutes, June 28, 2006

Members present:  Gretchen Asam, Charles Campo, Suzanne Finn, Inese Gruber, Barbara Harness, Moorehead Kennedy, Elizabeth Moran, Stephen Nichols, James Ritter.

Members absent:  Elaine Albright, Karl Aromaa, Betty Fraser, Barbara McDade, Glenna Nowell, Steve Podgajny.

Also in attendance:  Dean Corner, Linda Lord, Gary Nichols

New Century Grant applications

$350,000 is available in construction and renovation grants.  Most of this is new money but there is also a small remainder from last year’s allotment.

  • Application form
    Members unanimously approved the form. Agreed that an applicant may be telephoned once to retrieve information missing from the form.
  • Scoring rubric
    Members unanimously agreed with the assigned point scheme.
  • Criteria
    Unanimously agreed to utilize the 2000 Maine Public Library Standards, with the exception of the physical facility standards, as the criteria for judging applications.  Libraries not meeting the facility standards must gear their grant applications to projects which would allow them to meet those standards.
  • Agreed that grants are to be capped at $50,000 per applicant.
