Natural Gas
There are approximately 26,000 natural gas customers in Maine, primarily served by Northern Utilities. Two relatively new local distribution utilities – Bangor Gas and Maine Natural Gas-- began serving new customers in 1999. Until 1999, virtually all gas customers in Maine received both transportation and commodity gas service as a bundled product. Now, unbundled (i.e. transportation-only) service is available to all commercial and industrial customers from each of the three gas utilities under its terms of service.
