Consumer Information

Your Telephone Service

Many Maine consumers may choose their local, in state and out-of-state service providers. This is because in most areas of Maine, telecommunication companies are able to compete to provide these services. The Commission regulates local and in-state toll services to protect consumers from abusive practices and to ensure that Maine’s competitive telephone markets work smoothly. The Commission also set the rates of traditional local telephone companies (but not the rates of their competitors) and regulates the size of local calling areas of some service providers.
