Maine’s natural gas market is changing. Commercial and industrial consumers may now buy their natural gas from competitive suppliers, and have it delivered by their local gas utility. Or, they can still buy both their natural gas supply and the transportation service from their local gas utility. Residential consumers still benefit from the convenience of receiving both services from their local gas utility. The prices charged by competitive gas suppliers are market-based. The rates and service quality of Maine’s local natural gas utilities are still regulated by the Commission.
