Overview of the Consultative Model
As the use of learning technologies in Maine's schools has evolved over the years, so has the support provided by the MLTI team. From the initial professional development provided at the rollout of the project, morphing into the face-to-face sessions centering on educational applications of software on the laptop image, through the introduction of the SAMR and TPCK models for planning and design, to the more recent webinars and accompanying frameworks, the team has sought to introduce new support models paralleling progressively more sophisticated and challenging uses of the technology in the schools. It is for this reason that we now introduce a new model, a consultative model, in which we will work in closer collaboration than ever before with the schools.
The current generation of laptop projects requires more than just the application of new technologies to modifications of older teaching frameworks: it requires both careful consideration of the technology from a curricular design perspective, as well as its integration into assessment for and of learning. At the same time, these projects also require the use of tools that allow teachers and school planning teams to assess the effectiveness and impact of a particular use of the technology in the classroom. The MLTI team's consultative approach will provide support for all of these components, together with professional development that is specifically and individually targeted to addressing each school's particular needs.
We believe that the consultative model will allow us to assist schools in reaching new levels of success and exploring new directions in their use of the laptops. We are excited about it, and look forward to the coming year's projects.
Schools have been selected for Round #1 of the Consultative Model and we are currently accepting applications for Round #2. If you are interested in participating, please read all information carefully and complete the online application form.

Consultative Model with Optional In-Depth Research
MLTI is interesting in partnering with a select number of schools to perform more in-depth research on the use of technology in the classroom. Although the bulk of work remains the same, there a few additions on the In-Depth Research MOU.
One of the biggest differences in the In-Depth Research model is that schools started the work earlier in the year, sending a team of teachers to the MLTI Summer Institute at the end of July in Castine, Maine. Schools assumed a stake in the success of the project by selecting teachers and members of the leadership team to participate in a special background professional development session (concurrent with the Summer Institute), as well as in three on-site meetings that will provide support for the design, development, and assessment of teacher-created projects.
If you are interested in participating, please complete the Online Application. We have also included MOUs (.pdf version) your school (if selected) would sign with the MLTI.
