Housing Rehabilitation/Restoration
- A cover letter describing the project; and
- A USGS topographic quad map and/or a tax map (if in an urban area) with the subject property clearly and accurately indicated; and
- Clear, unobstructed photos of the subject building and its setting. Photos should be keyed to the USGS topographic quad map or tax map and be submitted on the enclosed Maine Historic Preservation Commission Historic Building/Structure Survey Form with lines 3-5 filled out. If no buildings over fifty years of age exist in the vicinity, please indicate this in writing; and
- If the project involves a known historic property or is within a known historic district (properties and districts that are listed on, or eligible for nomination to, the National Register of Historic Places), specifications, plans, concept sketches and/or drawings should be submitted if available.
The following stipulations apply to projects involving window/sash replacement:
- The replacement sash lite configurations must match the existing sash lite configurations (ie: 9-over-6); and
- Replacement windows and sash must match the existing as closely as possible in materials (aluminum clad wood sash are acceptable), design and dimensions (including exposed glass area and overall dimensions, as well as rail, stile and muntin widths); and
- All exterior and interior trim must be retained; and
- Any replacement window sash must include permanent exterior muntins (or "grills"), permanent or removable interior muntins, and must have shadow bars between panes at the muntins (usually referred to as true-divided lite, simulated divided lite, authentic divided lite models).
The following window sash/replacement products have been reviewed and found acceptable to our office. There may be other products that are equally acceptable that are not included on this list.
