![]() Historic Barn Preservation GrantsIn response to the ever increasing loss of historic agricultural buildings across the state of Maine, the Commission sets aside a portion of its New Century Community Program allocation for preservation grants to privately owned historic barns and related agricultural outbuildings such as silos, equipment sheds, ice houses and smoke sheds. The aim of the Historic Barn Preservation Grant program is to help private barn owners undertake repair or stabilization of their historic barns. The competitively awarded matching grants are specifically for those barns or agricultural properties that are listed in, or eligible for listing in, the National Register of Historic Places. Since its establishment in 1999 the Historic Barn Preservation Grant program has been funded three times. Information on the next round of grants will be posted on this website when it becomes available. If you are interested in determining if your barn or agricultural outbuilding is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places please send an e-mail with your name, mailing address, and phone number to by email. and place the phrase “barn grant inquiry” in the subject heading. 2006 Barn Grant Recipients
