Maine Hazards

Hazard Analysis is the basis for all emergency planning. The process is straightforward: look candidly at your town, county or state (or home or school) and assess objectively what emergencies could happen, and what the consequences would be.

We have included here a report for each hazard found to be significant for the State of Maine, as of the last comprehensive study in 2003. Many State agencies participated in process of assessing hazards and determining the vulnerability of Maine to their effects.

To begin the process of hazard analysis for your community, we suggest the State of Maine workbook publication "Hazard Identification and Vulnerability Assessment for Local and County Governments". Contact your County Emergency Management Agency for a copy.
