EXERCISE: N. Maine Regional Hazmat - Rail Incident

The Maine Emergency Management Agency, Aroostook Emergency Management Agency and NB Southern Railway will be conducting a technological (hazmat) release full scale exercise involving a train/railcar. This exercise is planned for 2 days in Houlton, October 2-3, 2015.

Participating Organizations include: Madawaska RRT, Presque Isle DST, Houlton DST, Orono RRT, Maine Emergency Management Agency, Aroostook Emergency Management Agency, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Maine National Guard, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, Aroostook County IMAT, Maine EMS Region 5, Littleton Fire Department, NOAA NWS Caribou, Clean Harbors.

Exercise Location:

The exercise will be held on Alice Avenue in Houlton, Maine.

Exercises allow participants to identify strengths so they can be reinforced and used in future events. They also provide an objective assessment of gaps and shortfalls so these can be corrected before a real-world incident. Exercises help clarify roles and responsibilities among participants, improve interagency coordination and communications and identify needed resources for improvement.
