This is a three day course incorporating classroom, practical, and live fire on the range.

Patrol Counter Ambush Tactics and Techniques

Location: Brewer Police Department, 151 Parkway South, Brewer, ME 04412

Start time: 0800hrs

Course description:

This training course is designed to provide patrol officers with lifesaving self-defense tactics when dealing with an armed criminal/terrorist. Topics include mental conditioning for armed encounters, lessons learned from recent armed confrontations, mobile ambush of police/military and mobile counter ambush tactics, defense tactics against deadly threats in and around vehicles, and deployment of the police rifle from a vehicle. In light of recent events, this course will also look at counter ambush tactics and countermeasures when confronted with Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).

Special equipment attendees need to bring for practical portion of training:

  • Duty belt and pistol
  • At least 3 pistol magazines
  • 400 rounds pistol ammunition
  • Semi-automatic rifle
  • At least three 30 round magazines
  • 800 rounds rifle ammunition
  • Handcuffs
  • Range dress (BDU’s etc)
  • Appropriate range footwear
  • Eye and Ear protection
  • Knee and elbow pads recommended
  • Hat with bill/brim
  • Flashlight
