FACT SHEET: Storm Recovery Status as of 9:30 am February 27

February 27, 2010

9:30 AM

Status of Storm Recovery

  • As of 7:00 pm, a little over 73,000 accounts in CMP (approximately 70,000) and Bangor Hydro service areas (approximately 3,300) remained out of power, down from a high of over 140,000 yesterday. Both utilities advise making good progress, and hope to have power restored to most customers by the end of Saturday.
  • Many local roads remain closed, or with limited access. The public is requested to respect all road barricades and detours, and to report unmarked road damage to local officials.
  • Governor Baldacci has declared a State of Emergency to facilitate power restoration crews. The Emergency Declaration was issued at 6:25 p.m. February 25 to extend the hours of service for power crews to expedite power restoration for household and businesses currently without electricity.
  • The State Emergency Operations Center continues to monitor statewide conditions and provide assistance where needed. County Emergency Management Agencies in all affected counties have been active since Thursday evening coordinating local response and recovery.
  • 3 Red Cross shelters and 7 local Warming Centers are open at this time. A current list is posted at or can be obtained by calling 211.

Key Safety Messages:

  • Monitor weather forecasts closely for expected conditions in your area
  • Stay away from downed power lines. Report downed lines to your electric utility and local officials.
  • Stay clear of flooded roadways. Respect all barricades, and report flooded areas to local officials.
  • If the power goes out, use generators and alternate heat sources safely. Never run a generator in a basement or attached garage. Carbon monoxide poisoning may result.
  • Check on neighbors, family and friends who may need special assistance to weather the storm
