Presque Isle Tests Air Crash ResponseSeptember 14, 2009
On September 10, 2009, the Presque Isle Fire Department conducted a Full Scale Exercise at the Presque Isle Airport. This exercise was designed to test their plan in the event of an airplane crash. Presque Isle Police Department, Presque Isle Fire Department, Aroostook County EMA, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, US Customs/Border Patrol, Presque Isle Airport, Crown Ambulance, The Aroostook Medical Center, and Maine Emergency Management Agency were amongst the players in this exercise. An after action report will follow, however triage and transport were both recognized as areas of improvement within this exercise. All victims involved were initially gross decontaminated prior to loading into the ambulances. Once victims arrived at The Aroostook Medical Center, they were again decontaminated prior to entering the hospital. Several photos have been uploaded to MEMA's page on Facebook. For more information on exercising your plan, contact your County Emergency Management Agency or Maine Emergency Management Agency.
