UPDATED: Bottled Water and Water Test Kit Availability
May 1, 2008
AUGUSTA, MAINE – Bottled water is currently or will be available today in four Aroostook County towns for those whose private wells may have been impacted by the recent flooding. Distribution locations are listed below. Water test kits will also be available, provided by the MaineCDC. Residents should check with town officials on availability and testing procedures.
Bottled water is currently available at Fort Kent and Van Buren; it is BEING DELIVERED TODAY to Allagash and St. Francis.
MaineCDC recommends that if a private well has been flooded, bottled water be used for drinking until test results are received OR that water be disinfected before drinking. Information in English and French on drinking water safety is available at: http://www.maine.gov/mema
The bottled water may be picked up at the locations below. Water test kits will also be made available in these communities; check with town officials on availability and testing procedures.

Individuals will be contacted if the water test kits indicates contamination, and receive instructions on disinfecting the well.
