Preparedness Conference "Kicks Off" on Thursday

Registration Available at the DoorAUGUSTA, MAINE -- The Third Annual Maine Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference kicks off at the Augusta Civic Center at 8:00 am on Thursday, April 28. Edward J. Gabriel, Director of Global Crisis Management for the Walt Disney Company, will be the keynote speaker on Thursday morning. The Conference is Thursday and Friday, April 28 and 29, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Augusta Civic Center, Augusta, Maine. The two days will be packed with workshops and interactive demonstration. Workshops are organized in eight tracks of topics of interest to a variety of audiences including emergency managers, first responders, municipal and school officials, and businesses leaders. Participant registration for the conference is free. Online registration is now closed, but participants can register at the door. A plenary speaker has been added Friday morning, April 29th. Stephen MacDougall, chair of the Maine-Aomori [Japan] Sister State Advisory Council, will speak about the long relationship between Maine and Aomori, Japan, and the ongoing disaster recovery there. The Conference will also feature a variety of demonstrations (of response techniques, canine training and equipment), opportunities for one-on-one discussions with presenters and other emergency preparedness experts, and the world-famous Maine HazMat Team Challenge.
