What are the current Border Crossing procedures?

Travelers entering the United States at a land border port of entry are asked to present certain documentation from a specified list when entering the United States at land or sea ports of entry.

  • U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 19 and older must present a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate
  • Children ages 18 and under are only required to present proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate
  • Passports and trusted traveler program cards - NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST - are accepted for cross-border travel

Oral declarations of citizenship alone are no longer accepted
