Auxiliary Communications (AUXCOMM) Training

Course to be held at the Maine Emergency Management Agency at 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta Maine. Classes will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Lunch and breaks will be provided. All other expenses are the responsibility of the student's home agency.
 

The Maine Emergency Management Agency will be conducting an Auxiliary Communications (AUXCOMM) course. This course is designed for auxiliary communicators who volunteer to provide backup emergency communications support to public safety agencies. This course focuses on auxiliary communications interoperability, the relationship between the COML and AUXC volunteers, emergency operations center (EOC) etiquette, on-the-air etiquette, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations, auxiliary communications training and planning, and emergency communications deployment. The course is intended to supplement and standardize a volunteer operator's experience and knowledge of emergency amateur radio communications in a public safety context.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Licensed Auxiliary communicators affiliated with a Public Safety agency.

EXPERIENCE PREREQUISITES:

  • Must hold an active FCC Amateur Radio License
  • Must be affiliated with a Public Safety Agency
  • Must have a desire to continue to work with COML's in a NIMS ICS environment COURSE PREREQUISITES:
    • IS 100: Introduction to the Incident Command System
    • IS 200: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
    • IS 700: National. Incident Management System, an Introduction
    • IS 800: An Introduction to the National Response Framework
    • ICS 300: Intermediate Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents
