Wiscasset Route 1 Corridor Study

ROUTE 1 WISCASSET TRAVELER INFORMATION SYSTEM NOW IN OPERATION !

As part of its traveler information plan, MaineDOT has been pre-alerting motorists to major congestion on Route 1 in Wiscasset since July 1. This pilot program was tested late last summer and fall, and will be run through mid-October.

The Wiscasset Traveler Information System is designed to provide motorists with real-time traffic information for Route 1 in Wiscasset so drivers can make informed decisions concerning travel routes.   • NOTICE: There has been a delay in setting the date for the Army Corps of Engineers Public Comment period due to a request from the Army Corps to MaineDOT for more project information. The final MaineDOT application package will go to the Army Corps in July; a date for the public comment period will be set shortly thereafter. Details on when and how to comment will be posted on this site as soon as information is available.
  • WISCASSET BYPASS STATUS UPDATE: The next step in this study is for the Army Corps of Engineers to rule on which of the three remaining routes qualifies as Least Environmentally Damaging Practical Alternative (LEDPA). The route that receives the LEDPA designation is the one for which the Army Corps will issue a permit. MaineDOT sent the permit application and submittal materials to the Army Corps on December 8, 2008; this decision-making process can take up to six months. A 30-day public comment period will be included in the Army Corps process - please watch this website for information on when that will take place and how you can comment.
