John E. Dority, Chief Engineer; Maine Department of Transportation

John Dority, Current Chief Engineer of MDOTJohn E. Dority was appointed Chief Engineer of the Maine Department of Transportation in 1995. In that position, he directs all MDOT engineering functions for all transportation modes.

Prior to being named Chief Engineer by Commissioner John G. Melrose, Dority was Director of MDOT's Bureau of Maintenance and Operations and Deputy Chief Engineer.

He came to MDOT full-time in 1959 after receiving his BS degree in Civil Engineering. Following initial assignments on construction projects, he transferred to the Design section, where he later was named to head the interstate and urban arterial design section.

In 1974, he was named Division Engineer for MDOT's Maintenance Division 1, assuming responsibility for maintenance and related activities for northern Maine.

John is a Registered Professional Engineer and has been a Registered Land Surveyor.
