Qualified Product List of

Bridge Compression Seals

Preformed Elastomeric Joint Seals shall be specified on the contract documents when applicable to projects. Each seal shall be specified by a Movement Rating, which shall be the design movement of the bridge, (30 mm/30 m). At fixed joints a Movement Rating of 13 mm is specified unless an engineering evaluation of the joint geometry indicates the need for a larger value. Listed below is a table of Compression Seals prequalified for the Movement Ratings and Maximum Skew Angles indicated.

*Use for retrofitting of existing joints only!

  1. Notes:The Movement Rating shown is to be used as the actual movement of the joint Parallel to the direction of expansion. Although the Standard Details show a Movement Rating at 7° C to be normal to the centerline of bearings, no reduction in the Movement Rating will be made for skewed structures. This will compensate for movements in the transverse direction.
  2. Seals of 102 mm nominal width at skew over 15° and all seals wider than 102 mm will exceed the 89 mm max. joint opening allowed and should only be used in combination with plates or other means that will reduce the joint opening at the pavement surface to 89 mm or less.
  3. Special design consideration is required for skew between 30° and 50° back on the right (skewed either way on the Interstate) because of the danger of a snowplow blade catching in the joint.
