> Maine Composites Initiative > Culvert Composite Invert Lining
Culvert Composite Invert Lining MaineDOT routinely rehabilitates larger corrugated pipes and pipe arches using conventional concrete liner. Working with Kenway Corp. and AEWC a composite invert liner was developed, tested and demonstrated on 8 ft. diameter culverts in 2009. Lightweight composite panels were easily installed and voids from the corrugated pipe filled with grout to form a solid and durable liner. Internal and external fish weirs were installed as well. Based on cost estimates the composite system would have been very competitive with the conventional concrete system. At least one other composite invert liner project is planned for 2010.
